We are frequently told to eat more fruits and vegetables every day. Most of us try to follow this dietary rule, but it’s always the same old thing: we get tired of eating them pretty quickly. Here are 7 unusual and eccentric fruits and vegetables for you to prepare on your cutting board in order to add some variety to your favourite meals or salads.

Dragon Fruit:
The dragon fruit, whose real name is pitaya, is a fruit native to South America and Asia. Its red spiky exterior hides a white speckled flesh that sour, juicy and refreshing. It can be seen in the picture on the right.

Chayote:
This pear shaped vegetable’s skin can be either smooth or spiky. It is native to Central America and it can be eaten raw, in salads or salsas.

Chinese artichokes:
The Chinese artichoke, who’s less common name is the crosne, can intimate more than one person because its appearance that remind anyone of a caterpillar. It is often eaten pickled, sautéed or as garnish in salads.

-Cherimoya:
With an average size similar to that of a grapefruit, the flavour of this fruit is quite original. People describe it as being a mixture of pineapple, banana and strawberry. Because of this unusual sweet flavour, it is often found in fruit salads and desserts.

-Persimmons
This little orange fruit could almost be mistaken for a tomato. When it’s in season, it’s used in salads or desserts and it is often pureed or used in sauces.

-Pomelo:
This fruit is one of the halves responsible for giving birth to the grapefruit. Grapefruits are a combination of an orange and a pomelo. It is the largest citrus fruit in Asia and its pink flesh taste much like the one found in a grapefruit, except it is much sweeter.
