5 Tips to Maintain your Indoor Herb Garden

Nothing elevates cooking from good to gourmet quite like the addition of fresh herbs. Chopped on a wooden cutting board for ingredients in a recipe, they add a new depth of flavor, an add aroma and a visual flourish to make a finished dish look and smell delicious.

Herbs are a wonderful addition to any outdoor garden, but they can also be grown indoors, right in your kitchen. A kitchen herb garden is incredibly convenient — you can snip what you need, at you’re the tip of your fingers at convenience, and your kitchen smells great. Here are five steps to growing an amazing garden.

  1. Choose herbs carefully

First of all, two options are available to you: purchase established herb plants, or grow your own from seeds. Relevant first choices are parsley, cilantro, thyme, oregano, rosemary, chives and basil
  2. Pick the right size pots

While it’s preferable to start your seeds in small cup, it’s important to transplant herbs to larger pots as they grow. Failure to do so could result in root bound plants or   limited room to grow.
  3. Keep herbs in a sunny area

Most herbs require sun to grow, chose an ideal location near a window with plenty of sunlight. Southern exposure is best if it’s possible.
  4. Water regularly

Herbs need lots of water each week, and some moisture in the soil. However, you’ll want to avoid over watering, as it can lead to root rot and, ultimately, certain death of your poor plant.
  5. Prune herbs back often

Prune herbs on a regular basis. If you cut them often for cooking, it may be enough to encourage your herbs to grow into full and bushy plants.<

Enjoy!
